Leather trousers are another timeless basic to add to your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. They are great paired with an oversized chunky knit and ankle boots for the day time, but look equally stylish with a long shirt and heels for the evening. The key is to ensure that your chosen top covers your bum for a chic rather than trashy look.
Pay as much as your budget allows - I have a faux leather pair from French Connection which have lasted well - I picked them up in the sale 2 years ago and they are still in excellent condition.
