Autumn Style: Denim Jacket

So this morning I decided it was time to sort my wardrobe - taking the Summer clothes out to make way for warmer Autumn pieces, and also reviewing what is actually in there amid all the white cotton tops I seem to have collected over the last few months and years (I didn't realise I had sooo many - watch out Ebay some will be coming your way in the Spring!).  Lurking at the bottom I found two denim jackets (one battered and distressed - so distressed that my sons and husband always comment on how worn out it looks, so it really must be bad, but I like it; and the other a purchase this year from Whistles with the "on-trend" frayed collar (please, please be on trend next year too).

You could be forgiven for thinking that the denim jacket is the preserve of the Spring and Summer wardrobe, and when September comes around it is packed away and exchanged for something warmer and more waterproof. But no ladies, think out of the box - if you layer a denim jacket up with a chunky sweater or sweatshirt it will continue to be practical through September and beyond....as long as you carry an umbrella in case of an impromptu shower of course!

  The model in the picture looks fabulous with her legs out but would this look be practical in the good old British Autumn?! These HUSH tights  are a useful essential to keep your legs warm and toasty once the temperatures drop a few more degrees. However, if you are feeling brave and still have holiday-tanned pins you could forget the tights and choose one of these on-trend styles, both would coordinate well with this outfit (and might look good with black opaques too)...

So, as you can see, my Wishlist is growing ever longer, but I am planning on only making a few carefully thought out purchases this season which enhance the Autumn/Winter clothes I already own.  Yes folks, I intend to "Shop my Wardrobe" this season, at least for the first few weeks...
